Personal Profile

My artwork is inspired by the varied natural habitats around me. I want to create connection with the natural world and its organic beauty; I want to draw the viewer into that existence, to stir a recognition or realization of the beauty while it remains. I use random patterns applied in multiple layers of brushstrokes to emulate the chaos that is the natural environment. The subjects of my paintings are the varied places of water, woods, and fields. I apply linear patterns-- brush strokes on a layer of burnt umber-- not in the pursuit of realism, but to reflect depth and mystery.

My work has been included in juried shows in Annapolis, Rehoboth, Adkins Arboretum, Berlin, and Ocean City. I was awarded a scholarship to the Corcoran Museum School, Washington, D. C. in 1969 where I studied drawing, printmaking, and painting. In addition, I worked as an intern for an exhibit installation at the Hirshhorn, Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D. C. My work included preparation of the “The Open Door,” a bicentennial celebration of 20th century American immigrant artists. While completing my master’s degree at Salisbury University, I completed an independent study in landscape painting with Dr. Robert Hill and Jinchul Kim.
